2 Postdoc positions in Computational Social Science at the NERDS research group
The NERDS team (The NEtwoRks, Data, and Society) at the IT University of Copenhagen welcomes applications for postdoc positions in the area of Data Science, with focus on Computational Social Science, Natural Language Processing, and Network Science.
Project. The project “Collective Coordination through Online Social Media” ( COCOONS ) is funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. Its goal is to unveil elements of social interactions that enable spontaneous citizen coordination in the face of societal challenges that entail social dilemmas, such as: rapid climate change, health crises, and mass migration. To reach this goal, the project will develop opinion dynamic models and advanced machine learning tools of conversation analysis, and use them to study large-scale online social interactions data in the light of theories from Social Psychology. The team The NERDS team conducts quantitative research at the intersection of Computational Social Science, Data Science, and Network Science. The group has collaborations with other research groups at ITU, (NLP, Machine Learning, Digital Design), with scholars from other major universities in Copenhagen (KU, DTU), and internationally with universities and research centers in Europe and in the US. The group is a down-to-earth and fun place to work. ITU offers a rewarding and stimulating international environment. Both salary and working conditions are excellent. Main responsibilities The Post-doctoral Research Fellows' mail tasks wil be to:
Contribute to the advancement of groundbreaking resarch with crucial societal implications, in a highly-dynamic and interdisciplinary environment
Publish scientific papers at high-impact journals and top-tier conferences
Collaborate with teams at City, University of London (UK), and the ISI Foundation of Torino (IT)
Postdoc qualifications (up to 24 months position)
PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related fields
Excellent programming skills (focus on Python) and experience in handling large-scale datasets
Proficiency with state-of-the art machine learning tools and techniques
Strong publication record in journals or conferences in least one of these areas: NLP (e.g., ACL, EMNLP, ICML), Web Mining (e.g., WSDM, KDD, WWW), Computational Social Science (e.g., ICWSM, WebScience)

General information The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full- time academics. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact and the commercialisation of IT.
Salary Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance's agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
