Research Fellow, Modelling of decarbonisation trajectories and system interactions
Australian National University
Description
Term: Fixed term, Full Time (2+ years, part time arrangements considered)
A fantastic career opportunity for an early- to mid-career researcher to join a high-profile interdisciplinary Institute at Australia's #1 University
Undertake research on modelling and analysis of decarbonisation trajectories, energy transitions and energy-economy-climate interactions
Become part of a dynamic team with a positive culture contributing towards societal transformation
Climate, energy and disasters are crucial and growing issues for Australia. The ANU Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) aims to advance solutions to these three interlinked issues to ensure broad societal impact. ICEDS initiates and supports the development of transdisciplinary research teams across ANU with the aim of securing long-term, large-scale research funding and ensuring broad societal impact as well as leading outreach, policy engagement, facilitation and coordination roles. Additionally, the Institute is taking a lead role in the ANU Below Zero initiative which aims to reduce ANU greenhouse gases to below zero.
Position overview
ICEDS is leading the development and application of an integrated assessment model and associated research applied to decarbonisation options, trajectories and impacts, with a focus on Australia and its trade relationships. The position will directly contribute to this effort.
The Research Fellow will play a critical role in the success and ongoing work of the Institute and will report to the Institute's Head of Energy. In this role you will undertake research independently and collaboratively, generate traditional and non-traditional research outputs, teach into relevant courses and have the opportunity to develop your research career.
We are seeking a candidate with high proficiency in quantitative modelling including the ability to engage in integrated assessment modelling using the GCAM model, and ability to develop or apply other quantitative tools including simulation models.
To excel in this role, you will have a PhD in economics, other social science, engineering or a related area, with a track record of independent research in a relevant field of quantitative modelling and analysis such as energy, industry and/or economic or technological change. You will demonstrate the ability to design and implement innovative research on modelling and analysis of decarbonisation trajectories (including proficiency in programming in computer languages) and a vision for the activities you would undertake at the ANU.
The Australian National University is a world-leading institution and provides a range of lifestyle, financial and non-financial rewards and programs to support staff in maintaining a healthy work/life balance whilst encouraging success in reaching their full career potential.
