英国牛津大学犯罪学中心2022年招聘博士后职位

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

University Of Oxford

Description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Centre for Criminology, St Cross Building, St Cross Road, Oxford, OX1 3UL

We are inviting applications for a Research Fellow to join our Oxford research team. We are seeking applicants with a strong background in a relevant social science (e.g. Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Applied Social Work, Education) and with experience of and aptitude for interviewing adolescents and discussing social media related safety. This role is part of the 3-year project: “Protecting public-facing professionals and their dependents online” (3PO) led by Professor Petra Saskia Bayerl at Sheffield Hallam University and funded by the EPSRC as part of the Protecting Citizens Online call. It commenced on the 1st of April 2022 and will run until 30 March 2025.

The research fellow will be based in the Centre for Criminology at Oxford, line managed by Dr. Katrin Mueller-Johnson. The physical location of the post is negotiable, but researchers must be based in the UK. Travel within the UK will be expected throughout the duration of the post to conduct some of the interviews in person.

The role has two main components:

Conducting interviews (mainly with adolescents but also with a small number of police officers and their partners) about their perception of online harms arising from the parent's role as police officers, how this may affect the adolescent's wellbeing, family dynamics, their social media activities, as well as about how the family negotiates online and offline safety issues arising from the parent's role.

Secondly the post holder will also conduct online “privacy walks” with adolescents, to explore their social media footprint and online activities and while doing so discuss their choices for privacy settings and for online activities and how they make their decisions on what they might post.

The Oxford team will collaborate closely with the team led by Dr. Kate Whitfield. Her team will focus on the interviews with police officers and their partners, while the Oxford team will concentrate on the experience of the adolescent children in the families. The findings from this joint research stream will then feed into the creation of technological safeguarding solutions led by the Sheffield Hallam team and the creation of training/educational materials for police officers and their families.

In addition, the project will produce a number of scholarly and practical/policy outputs in a variety of formats and will offer excellent capacity building and networking opportunities within the academic and national and local practitioner communities. It is expected that the Research Fellow will participate in the writing of these outputs.

Candidate should hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, or equivalent in a related social science subject (e.g. Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Applied Social Work, Education); have experience of conducting interviews and analysing qualitative data; aptitude for working with adolescents; experience using social media; excellent communication skills including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings; willingness to travel within the UK, including some overnight stays and a DBS check as well as police vetting will have to be undertaken prior to commencing fieldwork.

The post is full time and fixed term for 18 months.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online via www. recruit.ox.ac.uk and enter vacancy ID: 159922. Closing date for applications is midday on 11 September 2022. Interviews are likely to be held week commencing 19 September.

Applicants will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application. Candidates should arrange for an item of written work (no more than 10, 0000 words), published or unpublished to be sent in a single email to recruitment@law.ox.ac.uk by the closing date.

Shortlisted applicants will be asked to arrange for two references to be submitted before the interviews take place.
