YOUR TASKS

In the framework of the four-year research project ‘ReConnect China: Upgrading Independent Knowledge on Contemporary China in Europe' (HORIZON- CL2-2021-TRANSFORMATIONS-01-07), funded by the European Commission, there is a vacancy for a temporary mandate (1 November 2022–31 October 2026) of 50 % of a full-time employment at post-doc level at Ghent University, Belgium. The ‘ReConnect China' project brings together six universities (Ghent University, University of Tartu, University of Turku, University of Groningen, University of Vienna, and Palacky University Olomouc), six think tanks (Egmont Institute, Clingendael Institute, Istituto Affari Internatzionali, Institut Français des Relations Internationales, Swedish Institute of International Affairs, Elcano Royal Institute), one research institute (Zentrum für Soziale Innovation), one economic partner (Innovasjon Norge), and one public institute (Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre), and is coordinated at Ghent University, Belgium. In the contemporary geopolitical world, de European Union and China are in a constant dynamic relationship. The question is in which domains EU collaboration with China is desirable, possible, or impossible. To answer this question, this project has discerned four central domains of research: science and technology, economy and trade, domestic governance, and foreign policy. The independent knowledge generated in this project will bring together stakeholders and experts in a Europe-China Knowledge Forum, and aims at raising awareness on China among the general public and European youth in particular. This research project will work towards a resilient future with China for the EU and its citizens.

Your tasks:

Scientific support of the research project with the aim to successfully implement the Horizon Europe project of which Ghent University acts as coordinator;

You maintain an overview of all technical, financial, administrative and contractual obligations, such as drawing up and updating the Data Management Plan, including Open Science procedures;

You communicate with consortium partners about the scientific, administrative, financial and legal aspects of the project, and act as contact person for questions;

You follow up internal and external reporting requirements and ensure that the partners are completely up-to-date and adhere to the deadlines for milestones and deliverables;

You maintain an overview of the available project budget;

You coordinate logistical activities such as organizing the meetings of the Steering Committee, including preparing the agenda, minutes and meeting documents; you maintain good contacts with other scientific, administrative and financial staff and external partners;

You participate in the meetings of the consortium;

You represent the project to the relevant stakeholders;

You contribute to the communication and dissemination plan and activities to disseminate interim and final results of the project as widely as possible;

You take care of formal and informal communication with the Project Officer of the European Commission, e.g., for periodic reports and to request amendments.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You hold a thesis-based doctorate on a China-related topic (international relations, geopolitics, geo-economics, foreign policy (obtained max. 6 years ago. This term of 6 years is determined by the date written on the above- mentioned required diploma).

Knowledge and experience :

You have a good command of English (both oral and written);

You are skilled in project work;

You have experience with the themes, target groups and regions that are envisaged in the project;

You have a good knowledge of the classic MS Office packages; basic knowledge of existing project management software is a plus.

Skills and attitudes:

You are open minded;

You enjoy working in an international environment;

You have a general interest in research;

You are organizationally strong and you always keep the overview;

You have a great sense of responsibility and can work independently;

You are willing to occasionally work outside standard working hours if necessary:

You are a real team player;

You think in a solution-oriented way;

You can handle deadlines well;

You are eager to learn and show a sense of initiative.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

We offer you a contract of indefinite duration with a maximum term of 4 years

Your contract will start on 1/11/2022 at the earliest.
