Research Associate/Postdoc (all genders)

Darmstadt University of Technology

within the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1548 – FLAIR in the research group Electron Crystallography (EK). The position is a fixed-term contract for 4 years.

The CRC FLAIR (Fermi Level Engineering applied to oxide electroceramics) provides an interdisciplinary environment with 20 cooperative projects from theory, synthesis, and characterisation, which will establish a novel concept for predicting properties of oxide electroceramics in dependence on their composition and processing. The concept will be developed for mixed ionic- electronic conductors for ion exchange membranes, for photo-and electrocatalysts for water splitting, as well as piezo- and dielectrics for transducers and capacitors.

The sub-project Z03 of the SFB focuses on the structural characterization of the oxidic electroceramics synthesized in FLAIR, using electron microscopy and crystallography. A special focus in this project lies on electron diffraction methods in different dimensionality. 4D-STEM methods allow a phase and orientation analysis as well as the detection of ordered or disordered segregation in the grain and at the interface. Unknown crystal structures newly created in the synthesis can be determined directly on the individual nanoparticles by means of three-dimensional electron diffraction. The three- dimensional reconstruction of the reciprocal space is to be used for the analysis of the diffuse scattering occurring in the case of disordered segregation. For this purpose, existing routines have to be optimized and suitable quantitative analysis methods have to be developed.

In addition to your affiliation with TU Darmstadt, you have a connection to the Electron Microscope Center of the University of Mainz, where the 3DED method was first developed. Both locations have FEG-TEMs with fast detectors that are ideal for recording two- and three-dimensional diffraction data.

You have completed a doctorate in physics, material sciences or earth sciences and want to further your scientific development. In addition, excellent knowledge of English, sound crystallographic knowledge and experience in handling the transmission electron microscope are required.

You will find detailed information about our proposed research projects on our SFB FLAIR website.

The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.

Please send your electronic application including CV, copy of certificates and grades, and a letter of motivation (all in one PDF-file) stating the subproject to Ms. Jessica Bagnoli, jessica.bagnoli@tu-darmstadt.de. For further information you may contact Prof. Andreas Klein (andreas.klein@tu- darmstadt.de).

By submitting your application, you agree that your data may be stored and processed for the purpose of filling the vacancy. You can find our privacy policy on our webpage.
